Village Hall
Houghton Village Hall is situated in the heart of the village and has served as an excellent place to bring the community together for nearly 100 years. There is a recreation ground behind the Hall with a children's playground and a football/goal post.
The Hall is used for a variety of local functions, such as the hugely successful monthly village coffee mornings, an annual Harvest Supper, annual village drinks party; it also plays a central role for the Houghton Trail which takes place every April.
The Village Hall can be hired for private functions; wedding receptions, meetings, lectures, sales and club activities. The main hall has a large stage and can sit about 80 people or around 120 for drinks. Some Hall equipment (eg: tables, chairs, crockery and glasses), is also available for hire away from the Hall.
The table below shows current regular events.

Houghton Village Hall Refurbishment Committee
Over the last few years the Village Hall Committee has sought the views of village residents and hirers of the Hall on the current use and facilities of the Hall. The responses demonstrated that the village feels very strongly that the Hall is a valuable community asset. The responses also indicated, however, a general feeling that the building lacks ambience and that it should be refurbished, modernised and made’ fit-for-purpose’; specifically, it was felt that the look of external areas, the kitchen, stage and storage all needed a careful rethink.
Consequently, the Village Hall Committee formed a small sub-committee, the Village Hall Refurbishment Committee. The potential refurbishment is a lengthy project and many surveys are needed before building/repair work is started, plans shared with the village, money raised, grants applied for, Borough Council approvals, etc.
The committee meets regularly to keep the ball rolling and will continue to consult with residents and hirers.
The Village Hall Committee is currently:
